Working on a Building

Pedaling past a crew putting up scaffolding on the spire of this church made me think of the lyrics to a favorite song by the Cowboy Junkies:

WORKING ON A BUILDING

"Working on a building, a Holy Ghost building
For my Lord, for my Lord
If I was a drunkard I tell you what I'd do
I would quit my drinking and work on that building too

"Working on a building, a Holy Ghost building
For my Lord, yeah for my Lord
If I was a liar I tell you what I'd do
I would quit my lying and work on that building too

"Working on a building, it's a Holy Ghost building
For my Lord, yeah for my Lord

"Working on a building, it's a Holy Ghost building
For my Lord, yeah for my Lord
If I was a singer I tell you what I'd do
I would keep on singing and work on that building too."

Of course, being the atheist in residence here, I noticed that the riggers doing scaffolding work were cursing up a storm. Very un-Holy Ghost behavior. Nevertheless, I was as moved at the sight of these guys trusting their lives to their flimsy-looking gear (that's faith, right?), as I am by the song.
Believe it or not, that streak running diagonally on the left top of the frame, for once, is not dirt from yours truly, but rather a contrail from a jet. A rare occurrence to be sure that the mark wasn't due to my sloppy, dusty work space.

FYI, the sound on the album the song is on is exceptional.... as is the performance. Recorded live in a small chapel.
