Tunnel at the End of the Light: Greystone Asylum

A strange building built into the side of a hill on the grounds of the former Greystone Psychiatric Hospital in Morris County, New Jersey. It appears to have been either a horse stable or a dairy barn at some point in the distant past. It opens with doors on both ends and has a partially earthen roof that now sprouts trees and other vegetation. It's a pity that the state and county have torn down so many of the other building at the site and allowed the ones that remain standing to fall into such a state of disrepair. One would hope that someone can come up with a workable plan and public-private partnership to perhaps repurpose the Kirkbride building (despite its foreboding, creepiness). It wouldn't be a bad thing to leave it standing with part of it becoming a museum to remind people how once we warehoused the mentally ill out of sight and out of mind.
