The young man to the right of the frame was in the midst of a psychotic meltdown in the middle of the Great Swamp National Wildlife Reserve. He was shirtless and shoeless, rolling around on the gravel drive when the police arrived. Thankfully, they seemed very sensitive to his plight and were amazingly non-confrontational as they waited for him to calm down.
A few weeks later, less than a mile from where I shot this image, in a totally unrelated event, a 62-year man was found dead, possibly of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, on a nearby trail. I happened to have also passed that later scene while on a bike ride as the police were investigating. There were so many police then, that I decided to not annoy them by pulling out a camera.
