Guns: The Battle Isn't Over
I'm reposting this image of the "Coloreds" water fountain that's on display at the Smithsonian Institute.
I think the symbolism is a powerful reminder that getting change in the
face of fierce resistance requires stamina and persistence.
It requires impatience with the status quo and patience with the hard work at hand.
If the folks who spoke up, marched, stood up for what was right during
the civil rights battles of the 1960s, some of them risking or even
losing their lives, hadn't been so ardent in their pursuit of justice,
this water fountain would be installed somewhere other than a museum.
So to those of us who are distraught over the failure of the Senate to
pass, with a majority of Senators voting yea, a weak gun bill, we need
to remember that if the fight is worth fighting all, it's also worth
fighting to the end.
