Object Constancy

The Seaside Heights Rollercoaster.
April 2013.

The brain and eye conspire to play tricks. Our brain holds in our fragile neurons the recollection of the rollercoaster sitting on the pier and carrying screaming riders. Our eyes tell us that something has changed. Cognitive dissonance, memory and reality battle for control. Meanwhile, the salt of the seawater eats away at our collective unconsious and slowly corrodes the steel. Someday the persistence of memory, if we have any, will be all that remains. The molecules comprising the iron, wood and other structural elements will rearrange themselves. Other storms will come. We'll all turn to dust or something. Perhaps it will all be forgotten.
