This shot, made in 2009, is a reminder of mutability of life. Nearly everything in the frame was washed away just about eleven months ago. What the storm didn't get, the fire did.
This was just an amusement area. But think for a moment about all the sand on which it was built. Ponder all the formerly living things and rocks that were crushed and ground up by time and waves to create all that sand. In the scheme of things, our lives are nothing but momentary diversions in the life of the universe. Eventually, it all reduces down to something like those grains of sand piled anonymously on the beach.
So, enjoy the ride while it lasts.
