Before Hurricane Sandy made landfall, this house was resting in part atop a sand dune that also rose perhaps eight or ten feet above the tide line in a berm in front of the house. The waves displaced hundreds of cubic yards of sand from just this one narrow lot, leaving the house sitting on rickety pilings and facing an uncertain future. I suspect its been condemned, though perhaps the authorities will allow the owners to lift it and deposit onto new, more secure and higher pilings.
