Congress Breaks Bad

If the small cadre of extremists in Congress have the power to shut down the government, they must be quite powerful indeed. Possessed as it were with some sort of Super Duper Powers.

So, one might imagine what could happen if they deployed those Super Duper Powers in pursuit of something positive and ennobling.

Imagine if they were to turn their attentions to converting the jobless recovery into something resembling full employment. Or, if they focused their energies on a policy that created carbon-neutral energy sources and incentives to expand them to market scale. Or, aimed their laser beams at ending the explosion of gun violence that plagues us. Or, combined their forces to arrest man-made climate change before we're all inundated by floods.

Oh, right, I forgot. These clowns pattern themselves after Walter White. They're breaking bad because they "like it.... It makes [them] feel alive." Just like Walt, they're protecting their creation -- paralyzed government -- and their brand. They'd gladly see the whole of the country suffer just to prove their point. Bring down the economy in order to get the last word.

Their motives are selfish, self-aggrandizement. They are delusional. They are also, in the end, just like Walt, insecure and immoral. The actions they're taking to make themselves feel alive do nothing but hurt everyone around them, including those they purport to protect. I hope they get what they deserve -- a demoralizing rebuke in the next election.

I think a great many of them behave as if they were on meth.
